William Gordon

• Born in 1791
• Student of Drouet
• Co-inventor of the so called "Böhmflute"
• Swiss soldier of scotish origin, member of the Swiss guard of Karl the X. of France.
• After Karls overthrow, return to London
• Since 1830 first experiments on flute mechanics
• Had in 1831 two flutes made by Rudall and Rose, following his own model.
• His instruments are known for the new position of the keys and holes, which made a good intonation.
• In 1830 or 1831 meetin with Böhm.
• Died in 1839, after the outstanding success of building flutes had driven him mad.
